At EEMCS, we conduct research in electrical engineering, mathematics, and computer science, fostering synergy through interdisciplinary fields like robotics, data science, and imaging. Through UT’s research institutes—MESA+, Medical Technology, and the Digital Society—we connect with society, tackling national and international challenges to create meaningful societal impact.

Our goal is to create impact by addressing societal challenges through engineering solutions. Collaboration with industry, government, and societal partners is key. We focus on five strategic themes: Resilience Engineering, Sustainable Resources, Intelligent Manufacturing, Asset Maintenance, and Personalised Health—closely aligned with the University of Twente's scientific priorities.

ITC’s mission is to develop capacity in geo-information and earth observation to tackle global challenges by fostering resilience and sustainable living. We envision a collaborative world where researchers, educators, and stakeholders drive solutions for sustainable, fair, and digital societies through research, education, and impactful geospatial tools and strategies.

Embracing a cross-disciplinary approach and benefiting from the NanoLab - infrastructure that ranks among the very best on the globe - over 500 researchers deliver high quality, competitive and frequently ground-breaking research. The results are evident in our numerous publications as well as in various high-profile achievements. MESA+ has a state-of-the-art NanoLab that measures 2,500 m2.

TechMed is a leading Innovation Hub in the healthtech domain with state-of-the-art infrastructure, ranging from research labs, preclinical testbeds and simulated hospital environments up to the actual healthcare system. The TechMed Centre improves healthcare through research & development, education and collaboration in a global network.

Digital Society Institute performs scientific research in technology that is essential for digitalization, on methods and techniques for integrating digital technology in our environments, and in how we can come to intelligent, well-informed decision making. An important aspect of our mission is to conduct research that has an impact on society. There are a total of 450 researchers affiliated with the DSI: computer scientists, electrical engineers, mathematicians and behavioural scientists.
